I loved, loved, loved this film. The second in a trilogy originally began by screenwriting Polish partners Krzysztof Kieslowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz (the first being a wonderful film called Heaven, with Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi, directed by my most favorite director in the world; Tom Tykwer) "L'Enfer" tells the story of three sisters, traumatized by a violent childhood, that struggle with their own personal relationships as adults. There are some great story twists and developments, and the film contains exceptional writing and acting combined with dazzling art direction and cinematography. If you're not doing anything on Tuesday, June 6 at 4:30, do yourself a favor and check it out at the Neptune Theater in the University District.
For a history of Kieslowski and Piesiewicz, check out the The Three Colors Trilogy (Blue, White & Red) and the Decalogue (a series of ten films based on the Ten Commandments made for Polish Television).
